How-To: Marketing Newsletters

Sending out a monthly newsletter is a great way to stay in touch with your customer base.  Newsletters can be used to promote new products, company information, and product reviews, just to name a few.  Sending out a monthly newsletter is simple.  Here is a “How-to” guide to get you started on sending your customers a Newsletter.

Step One: Find a Mass Email Marketing Company

There are many Mass Email Marketing Companies on the internet.  These companies provide you with an easy solution to communicate with your customers on a regular basis.  Most of these companies have templates available for all of your communication needs, such as: newsletters, business letters, greeting cards…there’s pretty much a template for any occasion.  If you are comfortable with designing your own template, you have the option to insert your own code in the email editor, as well.

When using a mass marketing email company you can also track your email results.  You can see who didn’t get the email, who opened the email, who clicked on the email, and who has opted out of receiving your email.  This can be useful in understanding what topics your customers enjoy reading and also gives you insight in how to keep your newsletter current with your customers.

Step Two: Content

Content isn’t just about topics it is also about how you write the articles.  As I mentioned earlier, your newsletter can promote new products, company information, and upcoming events.  Keep in mind that not all people read the same.  Some people like to skim articles, some people like the cliff notes version, and some people just want the highlights.  So when writing your newsletter, try to write in a variety of styles.  For example, you can give a Top 10 list, you can write a “How To” article, you could record a short video… the list could go on and on.  This is the time to be creative!

Step Three: Consistency

If you decide to implement a newsletter make sure you are consistent.  Newsletters do not have to be a monthly publication. You can start out with a quarterly newsletter to get your feet wet.  Once you are comfortable and you feel that it is beneficial to your customers to send out a monthly newsletter then go for it!

The main purpose of a newsletter is to keep your customers informed about your business.  Newsletters are one of the most cost effective ways to promote and engage your customers. You’ll need to find an email marketing company, choose interesting and relevant content, and keep the pace of your newsletters consistent.  They do take time, but they are well worth the benefits!
