Unique Ways to Boost Customer Relationships

It is widely reported by the U.S. Office on Consumer affairs that it is five times cheaper to keep a client than to get a new one.  Many times when you are a business owner you think, “How can I get new customers?”  This is a good thought to have – everyone should be trying to push forward with all of their might; however, it is important to remember the people who have gotten you where you are.

Here are some tips to help you interact with your current customers and even some helpful hints to make new customers, loyal customers:


  1. Ask their Advice
    Take time to ask clients for their advice.  If you are thinking of adding a new product to your store let your customers choose which product you should add.  Give them a choice between a few different products that you are interested in and let them decide by taking a vote.  You can easily implement a survey or poll on your website by using Google Docs.   2. Add in Personalization
    When an order is placed make sure you give the customer something to remember you by.  A great solution could be a pen, magnet, calendar, or a t-shirt!  I cannot remember how many times I have been excited about getting a free pen – it’s the small things in life that count!
  3. Apologize Personally
    Our intentions are to never make a mistake; however, we are humans, so it is bound to happen.  When a mistake is made, try to contact the customer personally to apologize for the error.  Establishing contact will give you the chance to smooth things over with the customer.  This could turn a bad impression into a loyal customer since you took the time to contact them personally.
  4. Have a Drawing on your Website
    Everyone loves the chance to win something, so why not implement this into your business.  In order to win something you have to give your contact information, right?  This is a great opportunity to entice potential customers with the promotion and to also get your current customers to visit the website to win a chance at a great deal!  The winnings on your website could range from 10% off your next purchase to a $100 gift card. 
  5. Don’t Forget to say Thank You
    Try to send a thank you note to one of your customers every day.  These notes can be sent to a new customer or one of your loyal customers.  Either way, take the time to hand write the note.  This shows that you care and that you took time out of your busy day to write the thank you note.
