Home : Support : How to Install : How to Install on ISP Server
Who this is for...
  • Use if you don't have direct or remote access to your web server or web hosting account.
  • Good for people who have their web site hosted through an ISP or hosting company server.
  • If you only have FTP access to the server.

Requirements
  • Your ISP or web host must be running a web server on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 or greater.
  • Microsoft MDAC 2.5 or above must be installed on your web hosts server. It is probably already installed, but if you are not sure you can download it here in the downloads section: http://www.microsoft.com/data.
  • You must be able to set directory permissions and IIS permissions on your web host's server. These permissions are necessary for the cart to be installed and run.

Instructions
  1. Set up a CGI directory under your website directory. We recommend you name the directory CGI-BIN, but it can be named SCRIPTS or whatever you prefer. Create a directory in your cgi-bin directory named CART32. The Cart32 directory is VERY IMPORTANT. Both of these directories can be created by your hosting provider or by using an FTP program.
  2. Download four separate files from the Cart32 download page: msvbvm60.dll, c32files.exe, c32setup.exe and formwiz.exe. Three of these files ultimately need to be placed in the cgi-bin directory on your web host's server. You may have to initially download these files to your local computer, and then transfer the files from your computer to the cgi-bin directory on the server using FTP. The three files are msvbvm60.dll, c32setup.exe and c32files.exe. The formwiz.exe file will stay on your own computer.
  3. VERY IMPORTANT. Permissions need to be set up before the rest of the installation steps can be followed. Improper permission settings are what lead to 95% of problems during the installation process. Depending on what type of access you have to the server, you may be able to set these permissions, or more likely your web host will have to set these permissions for you. If you're not sure if these permissions have been set, or how to set them, it is usually best to contact the company that hosts your website and ask them how this can be done. Please click here to view the permissions required to install and run Cart32.
  4. If your web host is running a Windows 2003 server, they'll also want to check out these articles on server extensions and DEP settings. Sometimes, if there is a problem with either of these settings, they can cause an error during installation that appears to be a permissions issue, but is not. These two articles don't apply to Windows NT or Windows 2000 servers.
  5. After permissions are set, you are ready to install Cart32 on the server. The installation process is started by entering a command in your web browser. To do this, open a web browser. Now you need to go up to the location box on your browser and type in the command to run the Cart32 setup. To do that type in your domain name, then a forward slash and the name of your CGI directory, another forward slash and the text "c32setup.exe".

    Ex. http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/c32setup.exe or
          http://www.yourdomain.com/scripts/c32setup.exe

  6. Now you should get a Cart32 Setup screen on your web browser. If you don't then either you've typed the command incorrectly, your CGI directory is not setup correctly, or a permission on the server has not been set up correctly. If you get an error, verify that you're entering the right address in your web browser and recheck the permission settings.
  7. Setup will now ask you for some basic information. Enter in your company name, email address, serial number and Cart32 support code and click the "continue" button.
  8. Next, click on the link that says "Click Here" to go into the Cart32 web admin for the first time. This is what finishes up the installation process. If the link doesn't appear, you can also manually type the address to the Cart32 web administration. The address will usually look something like this:

         http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/c32web.exe or
        http://www.yourdomain.com/scripts/c32web.exe

  9. When you access the Cart32 web administration for the first time, Cart32 will create and verify its internal databases. Click on the "Click here to continue button" when it comes up. You can watch the database verification progress in your web browser. You may have to click a button to refresh the web admin after the verification is complete.
  10. You're now ready to set your administrator password. Click the button "go to administration" to login as administrator. At first login, the cart will ask you to set the administrator password. The administrator login will be used for adding clients and accessing the global administration area.
  11. Your shopping cart is now successfully installed. To make sure your cart is as secure as possible, please check out this article on setting additional permissions to prevent unauthorized access to your data.

Adding your first client
  • This is something you'll probably want to do immediately after successfully installing the cart. You must be logged into the shopping cart as administrator to do this.
  1. Click the "Add A Client" button.
  2. Next enter in a client code and client password. The client code is just a code or name for the client. Usually you use the domain name. Ex. for abc.com use "abc" as the client code.
  3. You'll now be able to log into the client's individual shopping cart client using (as an example) http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/c32web.exe and entering the client code and password you specified.
