If you are using UPS, FedEx, and USPS you may have noticed that shipping to Hawaii and Alaska may not return the correct amount. UPS, FedEx, and USPS all have ground shipping for the United States; however, it is hard to drive a delivery truck to Alaska and impossible to drive a truck to Hawaii! Even though these states are part of the United States, they do not receive Ground shipping rates.
When setting up your shipping you should set up a special shipping type for Hawaii and Alaska. In doing this you will return accurate rates, which in return will save your pocket books!
With UPS, FedEx, and USPS you will want to use an international shipping type for Hawaii and Alaska. To ensure that your customers receive accurate shipping you will want to base the shipping on shipping state. Please follow the directions below to set up your shipping type based on state.
Cart32 Admin -> Shopping Cart category -> Shipping subcategory ->Shipping Types tab
- Enter Shipping Type Name -> Click Add Shipping Type
- Click Edit beside the new Shipping Type
- Area Settings – Field: Shipping State, Equal To, AK;HI
- Select your shipping method and other criteria as needed.
- Click Save
You will also need to exclude AK;HI from your Ground Shipping Types. You can do this by following these steps:
- Click the Edit link besides the Ground Shipping
- Area Settings:
- Field: Shipping State, Not Equal to, AK;HI
- Click Save
Now run a couple of test orders to make sure that the settings are correct! When AK;HI are selected they should have their specific shipping information.
